Dispair had overcome General Robbie Risner's life while living in his tiny cell as a prisoner of war. He was in a dismal place. Dark thoughts ever comsumed him. Risner lived in his small cell shell of exsistence for 7 long years. He explained, "If you could have squeezed the feeling out of the word despair, it would have come out lead-coloured, dingy and dirty." How would he survive? How would he cope? The walls around him seem to close in daily. With his head bowed in sorrow he noticed a floor drain, pried the cover off and lowered his head into the opening.

There it was, a solitray blade of grass, the only life he could see, the only bright color in his lonely exsistence. This blade of grass he proclaimed, was like a blood transfusion of hope for the soul. Risner, with a "renewed mindset," began each day in prayer, lying on the floor with his head down the vent, focused on that single blade of grass. He saw the beauty of God's workmanship, the value of God's life force and plan. This God sent gift of life provided a ray of hope, during a time of great turmoil.

* Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the "renewing" of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will. - Romans 12:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. - Colossians 3:2

* Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things ... - Colossians 3:5-8 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. - Colossians 4:2

* No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. - Hebrews 12:11

* Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world - the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does - comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. - 1st John 2:15-17

Isaiah 46:4, "Even to your old age and gray hairs I am HE, I am HE who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you."

Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting waht he has heard, but doing it - he will be blessed in what he does. - James 1:21-25

STAND FIRM IN YOUR FAITH SO THAT NO WEAPON FORGED AGAINST YOU WILL PREVAIL. - ISAIAH 54:17

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you. When you see this, your heart will rejoice and you will flourish like grass; the hand of the Lord will be made known to His servants, but His fury will be shown to His foes. - Isaiah 66:13-14
